Culture and Craft Beer in Málaga
Craft Beer is Alive and Well on the Costa del Sol
Visitors to Malaga are spoiled for choice when it comes to cultural, natural, and culinary beauty. There is no need to limit your beer options while you explore this beautiful city. Especially when the Malaga craft beer scene is as vibrant and dynamic as it is. With so much to do and see, your agenda will be packed no doubt. Fear not, you don’t need to venture too far to partake in Málaga’s craft beer scene.
- Central Beers Craft Beer
A blend of steampunk and quirky Belgian flare, with a consistent theme inside and out: craft beer is the main focus here. A spacious, clean, organized, and inviting decor with lots of references to their favorite drink. In terms of food, Central Beers offers a mix of classic Spanish tapas and more American pub style offerings like burgers and salads.
- La Botica de la Cerveza
Cozy little spot with 4 large fridge doors that are very well stocked, and five taps with craft beer from Malaga and around Europe. You’ll find La Botica in a very pretty building just a half block further than most visitors will venture. The bartenders are friendly and enthusiastic about beer. They have a few small snack options, but not much in terms of a meal.
- Malaespina
Four fridges stuffed full with modern craft and European classics, a friendly and helpful staff, typical Spanish bar fare, and a sunny terrace on a bustling plaza. Malaespina is in an ideal location for people watching and craft beer enjoyment combined. Located amidst a sea of local and tourist trappy establishments on the Plaza de la Merced. An easy pit stop for a day of exploring the city.
- El Muro Bar Independiente
More of a cool, chic, and moody neighborhood hipster hangout that happens to have a few options of craft beer than a full on dedicated craft beer bar. I like the vibes at El Muro, as it reminds me of the type of local watering hole that I appreciate in my neighborhood. The bartenders keep it pretty straightforward. Expect no frills here. Yes, they do have a few craft beer options to enjoy if you want to hang out with some locals, but that is not what most people are there to do.
- Drunk-O-Rama
The name might sound a bit off putting, but Drunk-O-Rama is a reference to the punk compilation records from the mid-90s. The crowd is your standard and tame mid 20s to 40s year olds listening to mostly punk, and enjoying an ambiance of punk themed decor while playing foosball or arcade games. Bit of a teenage wasteland vibe, I suppose. In terms of craft beer, this is honestly a stretch for this list. They have three options available that were brewed for them by Malaga craft beer favorites, Bonvivant. They are worth a try, but if your visit is short and you want more variety, then you may be a bit disappointed by the lack of craft beer options.
There you have. Just a few options for enjoying craft beer in Málaga. This will get you started, but fear not, there is more to explore.
